Voiary Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 October 2026
Voiary is built around a simple principle: your recordings and journal entries belong to you, stay on your device, and are only ever sent elsewhere when you explicitly ask for something that requires it. This policy explains exactly what that means in practice.
1. Information that stays on your device
The following is created and stored entirely on your device, and is never transmitted to us or to any third party unless you explicitly export, share, or back it up yourself:
- Audio recordings
- Journal titles and notes
- Hydration and habit-tracking entries
- App settings and preferences
If you enable iCloud sync, your recordings, journal titles and notes, and AI analysis results are synced through your own private iCloud account, using Apple's infrastructure. We do not have access to your iCloud account or the data stored in it. Hydration entries and body weight are never synced to iCloud.
2. AI Deep Analysis (optional, opt-in feature)
AI Deep Analysis is the one feature that sends data off your device, and it only runs when you explicitly tap the "AI Deep Analysis" button on a specific recording. When you do:
- The audio file for that recording is uploaded, over an encrypted connection, to our server (hosted by Cloudflare), which passes it to Google's AI services for processing. For some recordings, a short excerpt (up to about 2 minutes) is sent first so the app can choose the right type of report.
- The model transcribes the audio and generates a structured summary, key points, decisions, risks, and related content, which is returned to Voiary and stored on your device (and synced via your private iCloud account if you have sync enabled). A copy of the result is held on our server only so that the app can retrieve it, including if you close the app or lock your phone while the analysis runs, and so that the parts of a long recording can be combined. As soon as the app confirms that it has saved the result on your device, the copy on our server is deleted. If the app never retrieves it, it is deleted automatically after 7 days.
- Your recordings are used solely to generate the analysis you requested. They are not used to train any AI model, and are not shared with any party other than Google (our AI processing provider) and Cloudflare (which hosts our server), for this sole purpose.
- If you allow notifications, our server can send you a notification through Apple's push notification service when an analysis finishes, even if the app is closed. To do this, we store the push token that Apple provides for your device. The notification text is generic and never contains your recordings or any content of your report.
- Google processes the audio under the paid terms of its API: it does not use your content to improve its products, and may log prompts and responses for a limited period solely to detect abuse, as described in Google's API terms. Our server deletes the uploaded audio file from Google as soon as the analysis finishes, fails, or is cancelled; if that request ever fails, the file is removed when it expires automatically.
- Asking questions about a report. When you use "Ask AI" on a report, your question, your recent questions in that conversation, and the parts of the report related to the question (summary, key points and relevant passages) are sent to our server and processed by Google's AI services. No audio and no full transcript is sent. Our server does not store the question or the answer; it only keeps a counter of free questions used for that report. The conversation is saved on your device together with the report and, if you use iCloud, synced through your own iCloud account. You can clear it at any time from the Ask AI screen.
- Recordings are never uploaded automatically or in the background — only when you explicitly request analysis for a specific recording, while the app is open. Once uploaded, the analysis itself continues on our server even if you leave the app, and you can come back later to retrieve the result.
Every other feature of Voiary works without ever triggering this upload.
3. Device identifier
Voiary does not require an account, login, email address, or any other personal information to use. To make AI Deep Analysis purchases and usage work, your device is assigned a random identifier, generated on your device and stored in your device's Keychain. This identifier:
- Is not derived from, and is not linked to, your Apple ID, name, or email address.
- Is used only to track your AI Deep Analysis credit balance and to verify purchases with Apple.
- May persist across app reinstalls on the same device, so that purchased credit is not lost.
4. In-app purchases
AI Deep Analysis credit is sold as a consumable in-app purchase, processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We never receive or store your payment card details. After a purchase, our server verifies the transaction directly with Apple's servers before crediting your account, to prevent fraud. If Apple notifies our server that a purchase has been refunded, we deduct the credit that came with that purchase from your balance.
5. Permissions we request
- Microphone — required to record audio. Nothing is recorded without you starting a recording.
- Notifications — used only for (1) notifications about your AI analysis reports, for example when an analysis finishes or to remind you to retrieve a report before its server copy is deleted, and (2) hydration reminders. They are never used for advertising or promotion. The hydration and report-retrieval reminders are scheduled on your device. The notification that an analysis has finished is sent by our server through Apple's push notification service (see section 2). You can turn notifications off at any time in your device's Settings.
- Apple Health (write-only, optional) — requested only if you turn on "Sync to Apple Health". Voiary can only write water intake entries; it does not read any data from Apple Health.
Voiary does not request access to your location, contacts, photos, or browsing history, and does not use any of these.
6. Apple Health (optional)
If you turn on "Sync to Apple Health" on the Water page, Voiary writes your water intake entries (amount and time) to the Health app on your device. This feature is off by default and only starts after you grant permission in the system Health permission sheet.
- Write-only: Voiary does not read any data from Apple Health.
- These entries are not sent to our servers and are not synced to iCloud by Voiary.
- They are never used for advertising, marketing, data mining, or tracking, and are never shared with third parties.
- You can turn the feature off at any time in Voiary, and manage or delete the data (or revoke permission) in the Health app.
- If you enter your body weight to receive a daily water suggestion, it is stored only on your device. It is not written to or read from Apple Health.
7. What we don't do
- We don't show ads, and don't integrate any advertising SDKs.
- We don't use analytics or behavior-tracking SDKs.
- We don't sell or share your data with data brokers.
- We don't use your recordings to train AI models.
8. Data retention and deletion
Deleting a recording in Voiary deletes it from your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, from your iCloud data. Data on our server is kept only as long as it is needed:
- The upload record that links an analysis to your device identifier (used to apply the correct credit deduction): about 6 hours.
- Analysis status information: up to 2 days.
- Analysis results (transcript, summary and related content) and the record of which device they belong to: deleted as soon as the app confirms it has saved them on your device, and in any case automatically after 7 days. For long recordings, the combined summary is kept for at most 1 day.
- A record that an analysis was charged (it contains no recording or text, only the number of seconds charged and a one-way version of your device identifier; it lets the app tell you accurately what happened if you return after a result has been deleted): up to 90 days.
- Your push notification token (only if you allow notifications): kept until it stops working or you turn notifications off, and in any case for at most about four months without the app being opened.
- Short-lived counters that limit abuse (for example daily request limits): about one day.
- Your credit balance and purchase transaction IDs (which prevent the same purchase from being credited twice): for as long as needed to provide the service and prevent fraud.
Audio uploaded to Google is deleted as soon as the analysis finishes, fails, or is cancelled (and, if that deletion ever fails, when the file expires automatically), as described in section 2. To request deletion of any data we hold, contact us using the details below.
9. Children's privacy
Voiary is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Voiary's features evolve. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
